Waste management

Our waste management policy forms part of our operational strategy to become a leading sustainable company.
We minimise the amount of waste produced at all of our construction sites. Where there is waste, we aim to re-use or recycle it; disposal is the last resort.
In addition to environmental reasons, reducing waste makes good business sense. It is costly to treat, handle, transport and dispose of – but finding ways to reduce and reuse it requires innovation and investment.
We ensure that waste is properly segregated to minimise the quantity of potentially hazardous waste, and that it is safely transported, and that receiving sites are fully licensed and properly managed.
Our waste management policy forms part of our operational strategy to become a leading sustainable company. Wherever possible, our policy is to:
- Reduce the amount of waste created for disposal, through our purchasing policy. For example, by requiring suppliers to take back surplus or unnecessary packaging
- Re-use waste. Before discarding an item, we check whether someone else can use it; examples include furniture, computers and peripherals, and books
- Recycle. We try to reclaim anything which can be reclaimed for future use, and to buy products made from, or including, recycled material
- Minimise risk. We discard waste in appropriate receptacles and preventing it from escaping, preventing immediate and future pollution or harm to human health
- Implement site waste management plans at all of our sites, with more detailed plans at sites over £500,000.
