Installation of all-weather Crown Green bowling facility at multi-sports complex in Huddersfield

Internally flood-lit structure enabling bowlers to pursue their sport all year round, along with external improvement works.

The project included removal of the former grass bowling green and the creation of a new low-maintenance artificial-surface crown bowling green, and working with Bridome, a specialist contractor, the installation of an 'airdome' to create a facility that provides all-weather and all year play. The 10.5m high airdome is a tough double-skin UPVC coated fabric which inflates mechanically. The dome allows natural daylight to pass through the skin of the structure, and internal floodlighting allows for night play.

The project was carefully managed in phases to allow the general public access to the existing sports facilities at the complex. The works also included increased security, improvements to parking facilities and landscaping.

Strategic Team Group are worked with Kirklees Council through a JCT 2005 Construction and Excellence partnership on this project as part of a wider framework agreement.

The project means that the new Crown Green can be used for competitions and matches as well as training and development opportunities of the sport.
