Strategic Team Group, one of the UK’s fastest growing suppliers of building and property solutions, has announced the successful completion of phase one of a £350k contract on behalf of Ravensthorpe Junior School in Dewsbury.

The first phase of the contract involved a range of new build and extension works including; the construction of two additional classrooms, the installation of extra toilet and sink facilities, the refurbishment and extension of the external playgrounds and the enlargement of the available car parking facilities.

The contract came as a result of rising pupil numbers in the school, which currently has more than 400 pupils on its roll, almost double the national average, making it an unusually large Key Stage 2 school.  To reduce class sizes and accommodate the number of pupils the school and Local Education Authority decided to embark on a scheme of improvement and extension works.

Strategic Team Group (STG) was selected because of the success of a previous project in which the company undertook Disability and Discrimination Act works including the installation of ramps to all external doorways, the construction of a specialist medical room and the installation of specially adapted doors to all corridors.

The second phase of the contract will involve the construction of two further classrooms and the extension of the school driveway.

Neil Lockwood, Headteacher of Ravensthorpe Junior School, said: “We are delighted with the success of the first phase of this project.As the refurbishment work was carried out during term time it required careful planning and close co-operation and STG have taken every care to minimise disruption to the school and safeguard the health and safety of staff and pupils.  The additional space and facilities they have created have enabled us to accommodate our pupils in comfort.”
