STG serves an ace to junior tennis champion
From hard core to tennis courts, one of the UK’s fastest growing building contractors, West Yorkshire based Strategic Team Group today announces that it is sponsoring UK top ranking under 12 tennis player, 11 year old, Peter Ashley of Cookridge, Leeds.
As part of its commitment to support young talent, the Castleford based company has agreed a twelve month sponsorship deal, which will see funds contributing towards the England and Yorkshire player’s travel costs as he competes in tournaments throughout the UK and Europe. In addition, Peter, who attends Ralph Thorseby School, will receive a bonus for every tournament he wins and will be kitted out in branded sportswear featuring the Strategic Team Group logo.

As a member of Carnegie Tennis Club, a high performance centre in Headingley, Leeds, Peter is coached by Kate Warne Holland and trains 18 hours per week. He is currently number one in the UK Under 12 ranking and has a commendable Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) rating of 7.1. Peter started his tennis career at just four years old, when it became apparent that he had a natural talent for the game with excellent hand / eye co-ordination plus great enthusiasm. Peter quickly went through the mini tennis ranks and onto hard balls.
More recently, Peter has won the Ilkley Open Under 12’s tournament, the Nike Junior Masters, which resulted in him representing the UK Under 12’s in Italy. He was also selected as one of only three players in his age category to make it to the 2007 LTA National tournament, which is held annually in Bournemouth. Now competing more regularly in European tournaments, later this month he will be travelling to France with the LTA.
Commenting on the sponsorship deal, Peter Ashley said:
“It’s great to see companies like Strategic Team Group taking an interest in the next generation and I’m absolutely delighted with the sponsorship. I suspect my parents will be even happier as it will certainly ease the pressures on their purse strings!
“I’m now focusing on the junior Masters in Roehampton on the 9 – 10 Feb, where I’ll be playing the country’s top under 12 players and then I’ll be going to France with the Lawn Tennis Association to play in an international tournament in Auray.”
Charles Tweed, Strategic Team Group business development director said:
“We are delighted to be able to support Peter during these crucial early stages of his promising career. In fact, we are all quite humbled by Peter’s sheer determination and his genuine talent.
“Whilst we’re all looking forward to enjoying Wimbledon this summer, it’s essential to look forward and support the next tier of athletes.”
