Strategic Team Group On Track To Build Better Travel Experience

Yorkshire based building contractor, Strategic Team Group, today reveals that it has secured renovation work worth over £4.3M at eight stations in Cheshire, Lancashire, Merseyside and Yorkshire.

One of the largest projects is at Accrington, where the first phase of activity worth £280,000, saw Strategic Team Group install new shelters, new fencing, improved lighting and new signage on behalf of station managers, Northern Rail, with funds from the Department of Transport backed National Station Improvement Programme (NSIP).  The second phase of work at Accrington will see the construction of a new £1.2M eco station.  As well as introducing sustainable, energy efficient and reduced carbon dioxide emissions, the station will be constructed using, where possible, locally sourced materials including recycled stone and materials that can be recycled if the building is dismantled in the future.  Funding for the new station is split between Lancashire County Council and the European Regional Development Fund.

Other NSIP work secured by Strategic Team Group, include the £1.7M restoration of platform four and seven at Chester station, on behalf of Arriva Trains.  The renovation of Huddersfield’s historical neo-classical style, grade-one listed station and Dewsbury station on behalf of First TransPennine Express, collectively worth £840,000.  Halifax station will see renovations carried out on behalf of Northern Rail.  Meols station and Rock Ferry station in Merseyside will also be transformed, with works totalling £300,000 for Merseyrail.  Whilst Lostock Hall station in Lancashire will receive a £19,500 overhaul, funded by Northern Rail.

Charles Tweed, Strategic Team Group’s business development director commented on the company’s successes:
“These contracts mark a significant milestone in the development of the business and are a huge achievement.  We have built up a strong reputation over the last 12 months of working in the rail sector and this is a culmination of a huge team effort.
