Strategic Team Group gallops in with cash boost for Ackworth Riding for the disabled group

Castleford based building contractors, Strategic Team Group, is donating £1500 in cash and also plans to build a new toilet block for Ackworth Riding For The Disabled (RDA) group as part of its commitment to supporting the local community.

The funds are being used by the charitable group, based just off Station Road in Ackworth, to purchase a nine year old highland pony, called Biscuit.  Biscuit will join eight other horses and ponies owned by the charity, which caters for over 50 adults and children with special needs, including pupils from Wakefield District Community School.

Commenting on the donation, Ackworth RDA chair of trustees, Alison Harris said:

We’re absolutely delighted with the generous cash donation and the prospect of a much needed toilet block.  There are many expenses associated with the running the group, including vet fees, hay, winter feed, tack and general maintenance, so we always welcome any donation with open arms.

Strategic Team Group’s managing director, Andy Watson added:

As a local business, we see it as our duty and responsibility to support the local community, particularly an organisation which provides such enjoyment for adults and children.“

“Actually seeing the pleasure learning to ride brings, is reward in itself.“

“Our next step is to put our skills to work and start the construction process for the toilet block.”

Ackworth RDA group was set up in 1976 by the current chair of trustees, Alison Harris. As a charity, the group relies on donations and horse sponsorship.  The group works closely with Wakefield District Community School, offering pupils the chance to learn how to care for horses, ride and general stable management.  Together these skills help pupils gain confidence, build self esteem and develop a real sense of achievement.
