Strategic Team Group apprentice and Bradford College construction student, 23 year Craig Reynolds of Shipley has scooped the college's Best Student of the Year Award in Bricklaying, sponsored by the National Federation of Builders.

Second year NVQ Level 2 Brickwork student, Craig, was chosen from over 200 bricklaying students for his commitment, positive attitude, ability and skill level. As well as a certificate and trophy, Craig also received vouchers to purchase additional tools from Bradford based tools supplier, H.Ellis & Sons plus a cash prize.

Craig has been working as an apprentice for Castleford based building contractors, Strategic Team Group, for the last two years and is mentored by accomplished bricklayer, 50 year old Pat Womersley. Studying one day a week, Craig is currently working on one of Strategic Team Group's affordable homes project in Burley-in-Wharfedale, a £2.7million rebuild and refurbishment of a landmark building in the heart of the Yorkshire village, on behalf of social housing landlord, Incommunities.

Commenting on his award win, Craig Reynolds said:

"I really enjoy my apprenticeship, it's a great way to learn as you study the theory in class and then get the practical experience in the workplace. I've also had a great mentor, Pat, who has guided me and encouraged me all the way. Winning the award has really encouraged me to pursue my career and do well."

Strategic Team Group's business development director, Charles Tweed added:

Bradford College's construction department head, Peter Thompson said:

"Craig has excelled in his course work and is proving to be a very competent and skilled bricklayer. We are extremely proud of his achievements and hope he continues to reach new heights."

Bradford College's awards scheme aims to recognise and celebrate the best apprentice and build talent, Craig was one of four Best Student award winners from within the construction department, other categories included Best Students in plumbing, carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating.
