Masquerade Ball Raises Over £32k For Charity

Award winning building contractor, Strategic Team Group, celebrated its tenth anniversary by hosting the Perfect 10 Masquerade Charity Ball on Saturday 9th October 2010 in the majestic grounds of Harewood House, Leeds, raising over £32,000 for the Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract, which cares for adults with progressive illnesses offering specialist respite, terminal and palliative care.

Sponsored by builders' merchants, Jewson, the event, the third hosted by the firm in the last four years, was compered by Yorkshire rugby legend and British Lion, John Bentley, and saw some 500 guests from the Yorkshire business community, construction and rail industry don intricate and extravagant masks. Guests dug deep to boost charity coffers whilst enjoying a champagne reception followed by a mouth-watering gourmet meal, as they were serenaded by soul diva, Janet Jaye before dancing the night away to tunes from band of the moment, Lazy Baby and Leeds born singer, Sulene Flemming. The marquee was decked out with autumnal tree displays courtesy of Palmers Plants and decadent jewel coloured table arrangements from Lawnswood Floral Design.

The highlight of the evening was the charity auction, which saw guests outbidding each other in an attempt to grab some of the ‚Äö√Ñ√≤money can't buy' prizes, which ranged from all expenses paid trip joining the support crew for the world's toughest endurance bike challenge, Race Across America, a coaching session with Leeds Carnegie to VIP tickets to the Queen Mother Trophy Final at Cirencester Park. Following a thought provoking and emotive speech by Amanda Henderson, a nurse from the hospice, over £13,000 of the total £33,000 raised on the night, was pledged by guests to purchase life changing medical equipment, including 11 syringe drivers and an infusion pump for hospice patients.

At midnight, to mark the symbolic date, the 10th of the 10th of the 10th, guests were mesmerised by an indoor firework display and confetti drop, as Lazy Baby and Sulene Flemming launched into the Black Eyed Peas' number, ‘Tonight's Gonna Be A Good Night'.

Commenting on the celebrations, Strategic Team Group's business development director, Charles Tweed said:

"This is a fantastic achievement and the perfect way to celebrate such an important milestone for the business. We are all quite overwhelmed and touched by the generosity of our clients and suppliers, in particular our main sponsor for the night, Jewson.

"We are committed to improving the lives of others in the wider community and supporting the Prince of Wales Hospice has become a integral part of our business objective, as we have set the rather ambitious goal of raising £100,000 to mark our tenth anniversary. Thanks to the success of the Perfect 10 Masquerade Charity Ball, we are now well on our way to achieving this."

Nikki Ridgway, fundraising manager at The Prince of Wales Hospice added:

"We as a hospice are overwhelmed by the generosity and support we are fortunate enough to be receiving from Strategic Team Group this year. The Perfect 10 Masquerade Ball was an amazing evening, and we were very touched by the fantastic support we received from so many people, a lot of who were new to the hospice.

"Our sincere thanks go out to everyone who attended the evening and to the planning committee for organising such a marvellous event. The proceeds raised from the evening will enable us to purchase some much needed medical equipment at the same time as being able to continually offer care to those people in our local community fighting life limiting illnesses."
