Castleford based building contractor, Strategic Team Group, scores top marks in the classroom after securing projects worth a combined total of £862,000 for schools in four Yorkshire councils, including Doncaster Metropolitan, Kirklees Metropolitan, Leeds City and North Yorkshire County. The projects include flood damage repair work, classroom extensions and refurbishment.

The company, which specialises in the construction, refurbishment and maintenance in both the public and private sector, started flood damage repair work worth £419,000 at Toll Bar Primary School, Askern Road, Toll Bar, Doncaster in March following damaged caused by the summer floods of 2007. The projects for Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, which is due for completion later this month, includes fitting new floor joists and laying floor boards, the re-construction of partition walls, new stud walls, replacing plaster boards, re-wiring through to re-decoration and re-carpeting.

The three remaining projects include an £80,000 single storey, flat roof extension, which will be completed later this month at Upper Wharfedale School, Wharfedale Avenue, Threshfield for North Yorkshire County Council. At Gomeral C of E Middle School, Oxford Road, Gomersal, the Strategic team are carrying out a £113,000 single storey extension and refurbishment of the adjoining classroom for Kirklees Metropolitan Council, with works due to be completed by the end of July. Also due for completion in July is a £250,000 extension to the school hall and upgrading the associated services at Merlyn Rees High School, Middleton Road, Leeds for Leeds City Council.
