Huddersfield pupils bury time capsule

School pupils from Lindley CE (VA) Infant School in Huddersfield have teamed up with construction firm, Strategic Team Group, to create a piece of history in their garden, by burying a time capsule they have filled with artefacts representing school life of today.

After weeks of work by the school council, which includes pupils aged from four years to seven years, sourcing ideas from the whole school for items to be included, the time capsule was buried after a special assembly where Bishop Tony Robinson officially opened the new kitchen. The time capsule was buried next to the school's new kitchen extension, which has just been completed by Strategic Team Group. The children and staff enjoyed their first meal cooked in the kitchen on the same day.

Containing fifteen items carefully selected by the school council to help future generations learn about school life, ranging from a union jack flag, map of Lindley and school photographs to a Diamond Jubilee mug and a school polo shirt, the time capsule was buried in the landscaped garden area, adjacent to the new kitchen.

Commenting on the project, Strategic Team Group's business development director, Charles Tweed said:

"As with all of our school based projects, we are always looking at ways to engage pupils to ensure that they feel involved in the development and its future. We are delighted that Lindley CE (VA) Infant School pupils took up the time capsule challenge and we are all very impressed with the diversity of artefacts, which will provide a very interesting find in years to come."

Lindley CE (VA) Infant School headteacher, Nicola Beaumont added:

"Our pupils were thrilled to take part in this exciting project. It has really made them think about what future generations could learn about Lindley CE (VA) Infant School.

"We are also absolutely delighted with our new kitchen, the children will benefit greatly from having their meals cooked on site. They are also looking forward to designing their own menus."

Strategic Team Group recently completed the construction of the new extension to provide accommodation for a school kitchen, food storage areas, office and staff room. The new kitchen enables the school to plan, prepare and serve nutritious hot meals on site.
