Following the successful completion of the first phase of improvement works to give better access and facilities at Huddersfield's neo-classical, Grade I listed station, construction firm Strategic Team Group has just completed a further £620,000 worth of refurbishment works on behalf of First Transpennine Express.

The station, which stands in St George's Square in the centre of the market town and has been described as the most splendid station facade, second only to St Pancras station in London, underwent a 40 week transformation, with funds from the Department of Transport backed National Station Improvement Programme (NSIP).

Strategic Team Group carried out the refurbishment work to retail units, counter and booking hall areas, passenger waiting areas and toilet facilities, improving the travel experience for thousands of passengers. As principal contractor, with the responsibility for managing health and safety on site throughout the duration of the works, the firm's project delivery team ensured that all works were contained and segregated from all passengers and staff, with signage clearly indicating areas that were closed and those facilities that remained open.
