Strategic Team Group's senior buyer, David Varley, who turned 65 years on 8th January, joins the likes of Manchester United manager, 69 year old Sir Alex Ferguson; rock star, 67 year old Sir Mick Jagger; entertainer, 82 year old Sir Bruce Forsyth and justice secretary, 70 year old Kenneth Clarke as he confirms that the pipe and slippers will have to wait, as he is planning to continue working for the construction firm for many more years to come.

David, who has notched up just short of half a decade in the construction industry, joined Strategic Team Group in 2005 as a quantity surveyor / buyer, having worked with the firm's original founders, managing director, Andy Watson, operations director Gary Taylor and business development director, Charles Tweed in their former business, Mansell Maintenance back in 1994. Now senior buyer, David is responsible for managing the purchasing department, negotiating rates and discounts with suppliers and sub contractors and negotiating annual rebates.

To celebrate his birthday, David, from Sandal, Wakefield, was presented with a wrist watch and pocket watch from the firm's directors plus a collection from his office colleagues.

Andy Watson, Strategic Team Group's managing director commented:

"David has made an invaluable contribution to the development of Strategic Team Group over the last seven years and we are delighted that he has decided that he's not ready to put his feet up just yet, for now anyway."

Commenting on reaching his 65th year, David Varley, added:

"After 49 years in construction it becomes a way of life, you make so many friends, and as long as you have your health, it's vital to carry on doing a job that you enjoy, whilst you can."
