Four rail projects constructed by Strategic Team Group, on behalf of rail operators, have been recognised at the prestigious National Rail Awards, which acknowledges excellence and achievements in the UK rail industry.

The successes included Chester's Grade II listed station being highly commended in the Medium Station of the Year category. Works carried out at the station by the firm, on behalf of Arriva Trains Wales, ranged from a refurbished concourse with new passenger facilities, improved circulation and waiting areas to new retail and catering units.

Similarly, Halifax station was also highly commended in the Small Station of the Year category. As part of the National Stations Improvement Programme, the firm carried out a full refurbishment of the waiting area, remodelling of the station car park, installing a new DDA compliant passenger toilet with baby changing facilities, installing a cycle storage area, new upgraded Customer Information Screens, CCTV and new signage.

Strategic Team Group's first and the UK's first eco station at Accrington, completed on behalf of Northern Rail, was runner up in the Environmental Excellence award. The station was constructed to the highest of standards using the latest in eco-friendly techniques and using recycled stone, has photovoltaic cells for providing a percentage of the electricity needs, solar water heating and rain water harvesting for flushing toilets etc...

Another first for the firm and the UK, the Cyclepoint at Leeds station, constructed on behalf of Northern Rail, was also runner up in the Project of the Year award. The Cyclepoint, a hugely successful Dutch concept, provides secure, fully manned storage for over 300 bicycles, maintenance and repairs services, rental bikes and information.
