STG undertook the design and build of 44 Social Housing properties at Chillcott Drive in Telford.

Set in Telford, Chillcott Drive presented several challenges, mainly; 1) the only connection to the drainage being the other side of the Highway and 2) the very limited parking on and around the site for operatives and visitors.  Through our pragmatic approach, design expertise and the strong relationships forged by our Project Management Team, we successfully overcame these issues.

- Client:

Drainage:  we used a fluid assisted drilling system to bore underneath the Highway.  The installation route, depth and direction were monitored using a transmitting device that was housed within the drilling module.  This enabled a connection to be made to the existing drainage, situated opposite the Highway.

Car Parking: We built a strong relationship with Anchor Trust Retirement Home, situated to the right of Chillcott Drive, to use their car park.  The strength of the relationship between Anchor and STG is testament to the approach of our Project Management Team, combined with sponsoring several of Anchor’s charity events.

Works commenced with creating the site drainage and infrastructure, including new sewer connections and access roads.  The properties were built using traditional methods, modern materials and components to ensure durability. Externally we have installed new utility services, private off-street parking, fencing and landscaping.

Relationships with all stakeholders

Our Project Management Team worked closely with all stakeholders from design, to implementation and ongoing. This includes Wrekin Housing, the Local Authority, residents, businesses and the nearby residential home.  We openly communicate with all parties and use a pragmatic approach to challenges, as detailed below:

  • Our Resident Liaison Offices sent Newsletters to residents, businesses and the local school to introduce STG and the scheme
  • We provided contact details for people to use on a 24/7-day basis, along with our Complaint Process, should anyone have concerns
  • A ‘meet the builder’ event was held to discuss the project in detail, understand how we could schedule work to minimise disruption and discuss peoples’ concerns
  • There was limited parking on site during construction, so we worked with Chillcott Gardens Nursing Home to provide additional parking for visitors and workers
  • We supported the nursing home in raising over £5,400 for their charity by donating money at their events including; fire walking, providing funds for a Western Night
  • We invited tenants of Chillcott Gardens Nursing Home to attend a group ‘walk around’ of properties so they could see what we were building in their community
  • We employed two trainees on this scheme, including an Apprentice Bricklayer and a Trainee Quantity Surveyor
