The project comprised of the demolition of the existing two storey purpose built Miners Welfare Social Club and the two storey former Caretakers / Managers house to the rear of the club building. There were also two former bowling greens to the rear and a large surfaced car park to the front of the club.

The project then comprised of the construction of new care accommodation consisting of:

  • A two storey, 10 No. one bedroom Complex Care & Autism Unit providing space, independence, staff support and interactivity
  • A two storey, 16 No. one bedroom apartment supported living block for residents living independently with occasional visiting staff support

The new two storey buildings were be founded from piled foundations. Ground and upper floors are precast concrete floors with precast concrete stairs. Traditional masonry work walling using block and brick was used for the internal and external walls. The roof is of timber truss type and this has been covered with a traditional tile lathe, felt and roof tiles. The buildings have been completed internally through to final finish ready for occupancy in accordance with the Client’s specification.
